Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has instructed the police to act tough against criminals who disturb peace in the society in the name of religion and also indulge in anti-social elements.

Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day event at KSRP grounds in Koramangala on Sunday, Kumaraswamy said that some people are trying to create communal disharmony in the society in the name of religion. The police should not spare such elements and should initiate stringent action against them.

The coalition government extended full support to the police department to curb such menace and also directed them to not succumb to influence or pressure in discharging their duty. It is every policeman's duty to protect the people and to have a good reputation among them.

He further added that the state government has decided to accept the report submitted by ADGP (recruitment) Raghavendra H Auradkar-led committee to increase the salaries of the policemen and consider the Sixth Pay Commission. The committee was set up in 2016 to study the pay scales of policemen. Compared to other states, policemen salary in Karnataka is very less and the government is ready to provide them with economic justice. Despite any hurdle to the state exchequer, the government will increase their salaries. “I assure you that the government will implement most of its recommendations soon”, he said.

DCM and Home Minister G Parameshwara, DG & IGP Neelmani N Raju, film actor Sudeepa and other senior police officers were present at the event.

Starting from September 1, 2017, to August 31 this year, as many as 414 policemen have lost their lives while performing their duty for the country. In Karnataka, 15 police staff, including two women, passed away while on duty.
