A 24-year-old woman from Tripura was allegedly attacked by a group of people claiming to be members of a Hindu outfit for eloping with a man from the Muslim community.

The victim stated that a group of men barged into her house in Sumangali Sevashrama Main Road in Hebbal. They beat up her friend, ransacked her house and took away all her education certificates on Saturday.

The victim filed a complaint with the Hebbal police on Tuesday, stating that her uncle Titu Ghosh (45) threatened her to leave the boy and return home or else he would kill her and her mother.

He then gave her mobile number and Bengaluru address to unknown persons belonging to the Bajrang Dal and other Hindu outfits. She started receiving multiple threat calls from unknown people. Then, a group of people barged into her house on May 18, and assaulted her and her friend and took away all her education certificates, she said in the complaint.

The police have taken up the case and booked Titu Ghosh and others under extortion, trespass to assault and wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation and are investigating.

The police suspect that Ghosh had hired local goons to attack the victim house.
