Issue of PR cards resumes in MCC limits

The Urban Property Ownership Records (UPOR) project got a new lease of life with Dakshina Kannada district administration initiating steps to expedite the issuance of the PR cards.

The project, replacing the existing RTC (record of rights, tenancy and crops) and Khata records in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits with special PR (property rights) cards, had been placed in a backburner since a year.

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil told media persons that the government has revived the UPOR project. Under the project launched in 2012, the survey of 1,50,248 properties in 32 revenue villages has been completed with help of GPS (global positioning system).

The PR card is a solid and tamper-proof document and will be operational by January 2019, he added.

At present, only 20% of the PR cards (priced about
Rs 600) have been sold to property owners (17,943). To expedite the sale of the cards, a door-to-door collection of documents will be launched in October. There are plans to launch an interactive website on the lines of the passport website, which will help property owners to book slots and submit documents to purchase PR cards, Senthil said.

He said the glitches in selling the PR cards to Mulageni property owners and flat owners have been resolved.

A team of three tahsildars in UPOR office on Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat premises will also redress grievances of deviations on the properties. In the first phase, UPOR will be rolled out in two to three villages before extending it to remaining villages.
