The Congress may have got a clear majority in Rajasthan but when it comes to the chief ministerial face, things are still unclear.

There are two prominent chief ministerial candidates - Congress general secretary Ashok Gehlot and Pradesh Congress Committee President Sachin Pilot.

But the situation is tricky. Pilot has been heading the Rajasthan Congress for the last five years and has performed well in the byelections and in the present Assembly elections.

Similarly, veteran Ashok Gehlot, who has been chief minister for two terms, remains popular among the masses. So far, both leaders have preferred to remain tight-lipped when they were asked who would be the next chief minister.

But when it comes to celebrating the party’s victory, both the leaders held separate celebrations at their residences, surrounded by their supporters.

The supporters shouted slogans outside the residences of their respective leaders, suggesting their intent over whom they wanted to see in the chief minister’s chair.

“Hamara CM kaisa ho, Sachin Pilot jaisa ho”, were the popular slogans chanted outside Pilot’s residence by his followers.

The scene at Gehlot’s residence was similar with supporters chanting, “Hamara mukhya mantri kaisa ho, Ashok Gehlot Jaisa ho”.

Defying the rumours of infighting, the two leaders met in the evening in presence of Rajasthan Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey and posed for an essential victory picture at a press conference held by Pandey. Earlier, throughout the day, both the leaders held separate press conferences.
