Last Updated 11 April 2019, 12:01 IST

In a jolt to the prospective alliance between the Left Front and Congress in West Bengal, Congress removed the chairperson of its Doctors’ Cell Rezaul Karim from his post on Saturday. Karim has been named as the candidate from the Birbhum Lok Sabha seat by the Left Front on Friday. However, the list did not mention which party he will be contesting in the Lok Sabha elections.

“ You are hereby notified that WBPCC has expelled you from the post of the Chairperson of Medical/ Doctors’ Cell of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee due to a breach of disciplinary rules of the party from your end... It is unfortunately evident that you have enlisted yourself in the candidate list (in regard to the ensuing Parliament election 2019) of other political party without resigning from your existing post and party membership,” state Congress president Somen Mitra said in a late night statement.

Mitra also stated “it has been observed that in spite of being a member of Indian National Congress and the chairperson of Medical/Doctors’ Cell of WBPCC , you have been found in unlawful political nexus with other political parties for the reasons best known to you.”

“ In accordance with the aforesaid you are restricted from the activities pertaining to the Cell of WBPCC,” stated Mitra
