PV phone-in: Citizens pour out woes to MCC commissioner

Inadequate drinking water supply, stray dog menace, poor maintenance of parks, non-functional streetlights and chocking drainage system were the main issues raised by the citizens, during the phone-in programme with Mysuru City Commissioner (MCC) K H Jagadeesh, organised by Prajavani, a sister publication of Deccan Herald, here on Tuesday.

Complaints on overflowing drains during rainy season and blockages were flooded during the interaction with the MCC commissioner. He directed the respective development officers for taking up desilting of drains.

The Palike commissioner asked the people to lodge a complaint with the control room on 0821-2440890, whenever they come across a problem. The problems were mainly reported under ward no 17, 28, 47, 58, 62, Vijayanagar 1st Stage, Ashokapuram and Chamarajapuram.

Poor maintenance of parks; wild growth of weeds and dumping of garbage on vacant sites; misuse of footpaths for parking of vehicles, dumping of waste and for selling foods items; non-functional streetlights among other problems were reported from ward no 9, 10, 47, Vijayanagar 1st Stage and 3rd Stage, Rajiv Nagar, Brindavan Extension, JP Nagar and near the Town Hall.

He said the information will be passed on to the development officers and health officers concerned for immediate inspection and clearance. He said, a confirmation is awaited from the higher authorities to replace tube lights with LED lights and the whole exercise will be taken up at one go.

Stray dog menace was reported from Saraswathipuram, Vijaynagar 3rd Stage and Udayagiri, for which the Commissioner said, the citizens can alert the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre or veterinarian Dr Suresh on 94480 54604.

Citizens complained that the proper waste collection process is not followed and garbage is disposed of on nearby vacant sites, parks, etc, causing health hazards in the neighbourhood. People from wards 8, 54 and 36 reported the above problems. Immediate inspection by health officer and the environmental engineer was suggested. The commissioner said, a tie-up with ITC to provide waste collection bags to every household would soon be implemented across the city.

People said, drinking water is provided only once in two days for less than an hour or two in ward no 1, 36, Vijayanagar 3rd Stage. They were advised to call the control room to lodge their complaint on 0821-2440890. He assured that he will bring the issue to the notice of the AEE concerned.

Getting completion report (CR), receipt of tax and khata transfer is delayed, road repairs are being ignored, circles are poorly maintained were the other problems reported. The commissioner said, an Adalat will be held at the Zonal office on Kantharaj Urs Road, to sort out some of the property problems.
