BJP plans protests, farmers’ rally against government

The state BJP will hold statewide protests on Wednesday against the government to condemn the “neglect” of sugarcane farmers and the derogatory remarks made by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy against a woman farmer.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa said that the party would also hold a massive farmers’ rally in Belagavi on December 10, when the winter session of the legislature begins at Suvarna Soudha there. The BJP core committee, which met later in the evening, endorsed these decisions.

Yeddyurappa hit out at Kumaraswamy for a remark he made against a protesting woman farmer on Sunday. “It is shameful on the part of the chief minister to make a disgraceful remark against a woman farmer. It is also arrogance to call the protesting farmers goondas and dacoits,” Yeddyurappa said.

He accused Kumaraswamy and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda of being the “most opportunistic” politicians in the country.

“Power seems to have gone into the chief minister’s head,” he said and added that Congress leaders who are supporting Kumaraswamy’s government should think over the chief minister’s remarks.

“If the Congress leaders have self-respect, they should ask the chief minister to implement his promises or quit the post,” Yeddyurappa said.

He said Kumaraswamy and Gowda had insulted former chief minister Siddaramaiah by trying to end his political career, ensuring his defeat in the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency in Mysuru.
“I think Siddaramaiah is tolerating all the insults and is waiting for the right time,” he said.

The core committee decided to support the ‘Janaagraha’ meeting convened by RSS and other associations in Basavangudi in Bengaluru on November 25 on the Ram Mandir issue, BJP state general secretary Aravind Limbavali told reporters after the meeting.

Limbavali said constituency-wise election incharges for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls will be appointed soon. The committee paid homage to its member and union minister Ananth Kumar, who passed away recently. Limbavali said the state unit will consult the central leadership on the nominee to fill Kumar’s place.
