Cracker sales: Karnataka steals TN's thunder

Last Updated 01 November 2018, 20:02 IST

For years, Hosur across the border in Tamil Nadu has been the one-stop destination for Bengalureans and others to buy crackers at affordable prices. The situation seems to have reversed this year with more cracker shops mushrooming on the Karnataka border and making more hay than their counterparts on the other side.

Amid confusion over the Supreme Court’s order on bursting crackers during Deepavali, sales seem to have peaked along the border. Contrary to the trend, shops on the Karnataka side are doing brisk business than those on Tamil Nadu side.

The top court’s order has also left the cops clueless about its implementation. City Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar said they are working with various agencies to enforce the court order.

“We are reaching out to RWAs and creating awareness, with KSPCB officials. There will be patrolling on festival days and anybody found bursting crackers beyond the stipulated time will be booked."
