With utter disregard to the heroes of the Independence struggle, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in Belagavi, shoddily placed their pictures on the dirty floor and garlanded them, on Wednesday.

DIPR insulted Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B R Ambedkar, by placing their pictures on the floor and garlanding them.

The 72nd Independence Day celebrations in Belagavi were marked by one impropriety after another.

The flag hoisting by district in-charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi at the official ceremony failed; and had to be redone. And then this DIPR incident. The DIPR here is headed by Senior Assistant Director Gurunath Kadabur.

DIPR officials didn't have the plain courtesy to use a table covered with a clean piece of cloth to place the pictures before garlanding them.

Photos of this unseemly incident went viral on social media and drew flak from patriots everywhere.
