650 tonnes of sand seized

The Panambur police seized 650 tonnes of sand illegally stored on a private land at Nayarkudru in Thannirbavi.

Acting on a tip-off that sand is being stored illegally, the police and officials from the Mines and Geology Department carried out a raid and seized the sand. Two earth movers have also been confiscated. The value of the seized sand is Rs 4.50 lakh while the two earth movers are worth Rs 20 lakh.

It is said that at one spot, the sand was stored illegally by Elias D’Lima, Srikanth and Junaid and in another place, it was stored by Wilfi, Darvin and Naveen.

The seized sand has been handed over to officials from the Mines and Geology Department for further action.

Another case

Mangaluru South sub-division anti-rowdy squad and Kankanady Town police seized a tipper lorry that engaged in the illegal transportation of sand at Pumpwell.

According to the police, sand was being transported illegally. The value of the seized tipper lorry and sand is Rs 50 lakh. The sand has been handed over to deputy director, Mines and Geology Department, for further action.
