'Aasare' outlet empowering flood victims

‘Aasare’ an outlet opened near Raja Seat to sell the products prepared by flood victims has provided a platform for the victims to become self-sufficient and lead a decent life.

The Women and Child Development Department and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan had started the outlet recently to provide a platform to sell products prepared by women flood victims from Kalooru.

The products are sold under the brand name of “Coorg Flavour.”

The outlet sells millets, pickles, chicken and pork masala powder, varieties of sambar powder, happala, sandige, biriyani masala, juices and chutney powders prepared by women flood victims.

Tourists who visit Raja Seat also visit Aasare outlet and purchase products.

As many as 30 women victims from second Monnangeri and Kalooru are engaged in supplying readymade garments and food products. Another 20 women who underwent another round of training will introduce a
few more products to the market.

To provide self-employment to the victims in Kalooru and second Monnangeri, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan had initiated Project Coorg and imparted training to women in producing 21 varieties of products, said Project Coorg convener Balaji Kashyap.

He said the victims are given assistance to prepare the products as per the demand. All the products are sold under the brand name of ‘Coorg flavour.’ The products are sold online as well.

MLA K G Bopaiah said, “The tourists and local residents should purchase the products and support the victims.”
