Last Updated 13 October 2018, 10:16 IST

Opposing the decision by the government to bring the anganwadis under the Gram Panchayat administration, anganwadi workers staged a protest in the city on Friday.

The protestors took out a rally from Gandhi Maidan to Old Fort Hall.

The workers shouted slogans and walked in the rally amidst the rain.

Anganwadi Workers State Association Secretary Lakshmi Devamma said that anganwadis in Kodagu have been brought under the supervision of Panchayat.

There are possibilities of implementing the same pattern in all districts and therefore, anganwadi workers in all other districts are opposing the decision, she said and urged the government to withdraw the order.

She further demanded promotions for mini anganwadi workers.

“Minimum wages should be implemented on the basis of seniority list. Vacant posts of anganwadi assistants should be filled,” Lakshmi Devamma added.

Association district unit President Chendira Kaveramma warned of intensifying the protests if the government did not change its stance. The posts of officials in the respective department should be filled.

The conditions mentioned in the opening of joint accounts should be omitted, she added.

A memorandum was submitted to Zilla Panchayat CEO Prashanth Kumar Misra on the occasion.

Association Vice President M B Jamuna, district unit General Secretary V S Sumitra and Treasurer Bhagirathi took part in the protest.
