A day after a man climbed a cell tower in New Delhi demanding special category status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh, a 26-year-old youth in Ramarao Nagar of Madanapalle in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh committed suicide saying he is vexed over the denial of special status for the state by the Union government.

Sudhakar, the son of two municipal contract workers, took the extreme step on Friday night by hanging himself in his room.

He left a note saying that he is taking his life as SCS is far from becoming a reality. His parents said that their son was upset over the lack of employment opportunities in the residual state.

Sudhakar donated Rs 5,000 to an orphanage on Friday before committing suicide. He was a high school dropout.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu paid tributes to Sudhakar.

"A youth committed suicide in the same district where Narendra Modi promised SCS for the state. I discourage youth from taking such extreme step but at the same time demand the centre to fulfill its promises," Naidu said.

He said that Rs 5 lakh will be paid to Sudhakar's family as compensation from the government and another Rs 5 lakh would be paid from the TDP.
