Karnataka NRI Forum deputy chairperson Arathi Krishna said that she is an aspirant for Congress ticket from Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency.

She told reporters recently that she hails from Udupi. She claimed that many were impressed by the programmes implemented by the NRI forum.

She said that many non-resident Indians from Udupi, Kaup, Karkala and Kundapura had mounted pressure on her to contest in the elections. More than 2,000 NRIs had promised to campaign for her in the elections.

“A recent public meeting organised by the Congress party in Dubai, which was presided over by none other than AICC president Rahul Gandhi was a huge success with more than 60,000 people attending the programme,” she said.

Arathi Krishna also revealed sharing a bond with JD(S) Supremo H D Devegowda’s family. Gowda had encouraged her to stand for the elections in 2009.

“If I get a ticket from JD(S) in Chikkamagaluru, it will also support my candidature,” she said and added that there are demands on the high command to field a woman candidate in Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency.

“Election observers from the Congress party had collected public opinion in Udupi-Chikmagalur,” she revealed.

Many people had expressed disappointment with the sitting MP and the previous MPs. The voters had declared politicians had not done much for the progress of the region.

“There are repeated demands to introduce a new face in the constituency,” she added.
