The High Court of Karnataka on Friday directed the court registrar to transfer the hearing of a petition filed by the Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC) to a division bench of the court.

Justice Raghavendra Chauhan directed the transfer on the grounds of a circular issued by the high court in 2002 which states that a petition challenging the order passed by a tribunal which is headed by a retired high court judge/judges should be head by a division of the high court.

On Tuesday, the election tribunal set aside the polls to the Karnataka State Bar Council after finding various illegalities in the conduct of the elections by the Special Committee in violation of the Bar Council of India resolution. The tribunal has also ordered that the election should be conducted afresh before May 15.

The KSBC has moved the court challenging the Election Tribunal's order.
