V Balakrishnan, the former chief financial officer of Infosys, filed his nomination papers as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the Bangalore Central constituency on Monday.

Balakrishnan, fondly known as Bala, filed his papers before the returning officer at the BBMP head office. He has declared assets worth Rs 190 crore, belonging to him and his family, all of which he claims is hard-earned money.

His movable properties include Rs 1.02 crore in Infosys stocks and Rs 5.26 crore in American Depository Receipts of Infosys Limited. His wife is worth Rs 19.34 crore. His immovable assets are a house in Basaveshwara Nagar worth Rs 3.1 crore. Bala’s wife owns two flats in Bangalore and one in Chennai.

Flanked by his party workers, the AAP candidate made his nomination filing ceremony a simple affair. His road show started from Vellara Junction at 10.45 am and ended at the BBMP head office.

Bala, who is one of the think-tanks of the rookie political outfit and was instrumental in drafting its economic policy, was confident of his victory.

“People are fed up and they want a change. I think AAP will get an overwhelming response.” Balakrishnan said social media and street plays will be used to attract the voters.

He said corruption remains the main poll plank. They would focus on empowering the residents through the Swaraj model.
