I will fight from Shimoga: Kumar Bangarappa

Sending a strong signal to the high command, Congress leader Kumar Bangarappa has stated that he would face the Lok Sabha polls from Shimoga even if he didn’t get the party ticket.

Speaking to mediapersons after holding talks with his supporters here on Saturday, he said he would file nomination papers on March 26. He would reveal whether he is facing the polls as Congress candidate or as an Independent on the last day of filing the nomination.

He was confident that the party high command would change the candidate in Shimoga. “There are instances where the high command has done this before. So, I appeal to the party high command to replace the candidate as it is a question of the existence of the party in the district.”

Stating that he had a call from the high command the other day, he said he would leave for Delhi in a few days. “I would explain the ground reality in the district. The party might have given Form A and Form B to Manjunath Bhandary. But there is still time to change him,” he asserted.

He claimed that District Congress Committee and KPCC had recommended his name for Shimoga seat. “If I am not given ticket, Congress would lose its hold in the district. I want to face the polls with the sole intention of restoring the lost hold.”

Replying to a query, he said he has not been consulted by any other party so far. Besides, he said he was not keen to embrace any other party.
