<p>A man carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 for killing his friend last year has been arrested from New Delhi railway station in central Delhi, police said on Friday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Sanjay Bhattacharya, a resident of Kalkaji who hails from Ranchi in Jharkhand, was about to board Puri-bound Purushottam Express when he was held on Thursday, said Sandeep Goel, joint commissioner of police (crime).<br /><br />“Sanjay along with his two associates had hatched a conspiracy and killed Shrikant Singh, a resident of Moti Bagh, on July 29, 2011, in Greater Noida to steal his brand new Hyundai i10 car, some gold ornaments and cash,” Goel added.<br /><br />The trio had beheaded Shrikant and thrown the torso and head at different places in Haryana’s Rewari district. Sanjay, a proclaimed offender, had sold the car to a relative and went to Koderma in Jharkhand. He worked at a petrol pump there. Police kept a tab on him and were aware of his moves. His trip to Ranchi to meet a friend for money and then to Delhi finally did him in. <br /><br />“We had received a tip-off on Thursday that Sanjay will leave Delhi by Purushotam Express. On this input, we laid a trap and apprehended him at New Delhi railway station,” Goel said.<br /><br />On July 30, 2011, Shrikant’s father Shishpal had filed a complaint at South Campus police station, saying Shrikant had left home on July 29 at around 12:30 pm in his Hyundai i10 car, but had not returned home. Initially, a missing report was lodged in this regard, but it was later converted to a case of abduction in August 2, 2011 under section 365 of the Indian Penal Code. Shrikant’s body was later recovered by police of Kasola, Haryana.<br /><br />During investigation, Shishpal told police that he and his relatives suspected involvement of Sanjay and his two associates -- Manish Kumar and a juvenile.<br /><br />A team of the South Campus police station apprehended the trio on the basis of the statement, but they were set free after they led the police into believing theta they were innocent.<br /><br />Later, on having sufficient evidence against them, Manish and the juvenile were arrested again, but Sanjay was untraceable. During interrogation, they confessed about their involvement in Shrikant’s murder.<br /><br />“Sanjay had taken Shrikant to their rented house in Greater Noida on the pretext of lending him money. They then consumed alcohol and as per their conspiracy and at about 5 pm Sanjay strangled Shrikant with gear wire,” Goel said.<br /><br />Manish and the juvenile had held Shrikant’s hands and legs till he became unconscious. Sanjay then beheaded him, he said.</p>
