<p>A man was arrested for stealing diamond and gold jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh in Malviya Nagar, police said.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Ram Singh, 28, a resident of Seekar in Rajasthan, worked as a delivery boy for over eight months with Surender, who owns Sai Air Parcel courier company in Karol Bagh. <br /><br />He had gained Surender’s trust by working hard, said additional deputy commissioner of police (south) P S Kushwah.<br /><br />But the temptation of a bag full of diamond and gold jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh was too strong. He fled with the consignment along with another colleague to Rajasthan.<br /><br />He was arrested after Surender approached Kashmere Gate police station on May 21. Surender had asked Singh to deliver the bag to a client in Chandigarh.<br /><br />He became suspicious about Singh’s activities when he found his phone switched off. Singh, along with Vijender, had gone to ISBT in Kashmere Gate to board a bus to Chandigarh, from where he went missing.<br /><br />A team of Malviya Nagar police, which was already working on gathering information on active criminals, found out about Singh’s presence in Rajasthan.<br /><br />A raid was conducted then, but he had shifted from Bikaner to Delhi to sell the jewellery.<br /><br />After receiving a tip-off that he would come to Malviya Nagar main market, police laid a trap and arrested him. A bag containing jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh was recovered from him.<br /><br />During interrogation, Singh told police that he was tempted by the huge quantity of jewellery and thought of becoming rich overnight. <br /><br />He hatched a conspiracy with Vijender to steal the bag. Vijender arranged a new SIM card and cellphone for Singh and took half the share of the booty.<br /><br />He made Singh board a bus to Jaipur instead of Chandigarh, and he stayed backed in Delhi to inform the owner. <br /><br />“After Surendra lodged a case, Vijender also went missing and is still absconding,” said Kushwah.<br /></p>
