The Delhi Transport Coporation has initiated disciplinary action against over 1,000 drivers and conductors over the last 15 days for dereliction of duty.

While three drivers have already been sacked, two have been suspended and chargesheets issued against another four.

“Disciplinary action has been initiated against 608 drivers and 438 conductors for various reasons during the special drive launched by the DTC between February 16 and 29,” said Sharat Kumar, spokesman for DTC.

While 268 drivers were booked for improper parking, 80 were booked for not stopping the bus at the designated stop.

While 20 drivers were booked for using mobile phones during driving, action has been initiated aginst another 14 for speeding and risking the life of passengers.

A DTC official said the Corporation will be strict against violators.

Out of the 21,733 buses checked during the period, 1,862 drivers and conductors were booked for not being in uniform.

DTC officials claim that the special drive has helped them in improving the operation of buses and only one fatal accident has been recorded in February.

But the number of staff members booked for similar offences has failed to reduce the number booked during a similar drive conducted two months back.
