Delhi Police might go paperless with 'Saathi'

Last Updated 10 November 2015, 05:22 IST

With the success of several web and mobile applications launched by Delhi Police in the past two years, the force is now planning to go completely online and paperless with its new service, Saathi.

“Every effort is being made to make Delhi Police world class. The facility is not only expected to save the time of a complainant, but would also ease mental and physical stress. Besides, it will also save the person from being victimised in case of misuse of his lost article,” Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi told Deccan Herald.

He wants the force to use technology with innovative ideas for providing better service to public.

Sufficient number of staff in all police stations working as duty officers and investigation officers will be trained to help those who are not technical savvy.

With Saathi, it is expected that a complaint can be lodged through mobile or web without going to police stations. It will also be used by police personnel to file their reports.

Instant FIR receipt

If everything goes according to plans, Saathi will help send instant receipt of a copy of digitally signed FIR on the email of the complainant, the area SHO and designated courts.
According to Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat, the facility is intended to cut short people's efforts by providing them an instant relief facility.

“By using the facility, it is hoped that one can lodge a report without bothering about the jurisdiction of a particular police station and approaching it physically, which is often being regarded as another burden,” Bhagat added.

In February 2014, Delhi Police had launched an application for lodging complaints of lost and stolen articles.

It was followed by online service for missing vehicles, police clearance certificates and an initiative for women safety, Himmat.

At present, one has to approach the nearest police station of his or her jurisdiction for reporting serious offences.

In the past, Delhi Police had also offered to help police of other states to adopt such applications. Delhi Police also have a traffic app, which was adopted by Gurgaon and Uttarakhand police.

The traffic app aims at increasing public engagements and providing them with easy access to information about traffic situation.
