The Delhi BJP on Tuesday demanded the tabling of the Fourth Delhi Finance Commission’s report during two-day Assembly session.

Vijender Gupta, leader of BJP legislature party, said that the commission’s report has been gathering dust for the last two years due to which all the three corporations are facing a funds crunch.

“The commission had submitted its final report in April 2013, but due to inaction under Congress regime and subsequent AAP rule, it has not been implemented so far,” Gupta said.

The BJP leader added that the shortage of funds has also led to disruption of civic services.
The Fourth Delhi Finance Commission was constituted in October 2009 to look into the finances of the civic bodies.

While presenting the Budget, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that Delhi gives 10.5 per cent of its share in tax collections to the corporations.

The Aam Aadmi Party government accused the central government of leaving the civic bodies in a financial mess.

In a press statement, the government said, “As per Central Finance Commission, two grants were recommended for local bodies – Basic Grant and Performance Grant. Delhi was not included in the terms of reference of the Central Finance Commission, therefore no grant is being received by the local bodies in National Capital Territory.”
