An unidentified man was found dead on a street near a residential colony of south Delhi’s Govindpuri on Thursday. Police said preliminary evidence suggests he fell from a height, giving rise to suspicion that he was attempting a theft.

No identity proof could be found from his pocket. Local residents have denied knowing him.Police said they would put out his photographs for identification.
The man’s body was found around 6 am by a police control room van passing by street number 13 of Govindpuri.

“I received a knock on my door early in the morning and upon opening, I found a police team outside. They pointed to a man lying dead right outside my door and asked if I knew him. I did not know the dead man,” resident Rajesh Kumar Mehta told Deccan Herald.

Police suspect the man had climbed a building to commit a burglary and fell off in the process.

“It is a case of fall from a height. Some cables hanging overhead broke as an impact of the fall,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.
The houses in the immediate surroundings of the spot where the body was found were not found broken into however.

Houses constructed very close to each other in the area means it is not very difficult to climb atop a building from outside.

Police suspect he used the walls to climb a building.Police have been unable to recover any possible equipment he would have used to break into a house.

The possibility of the man being accompanied by another person has not been ruled out either.

The victim’s body has been preserved at a hospital for identification.
A forensic team reached the spot later in the day and collected evidence.
