Traders and members of local organisations gave a bandh call on Thursday, in protest against the assault on Guruprasad Panja, Hindu Jagaran Vedike Sullia taluk secretary.

The traders and members of organisations took out a procession on Wednesday evening, condemning the assault on Guruprasad by activist Chaitra Kundapur and her associates.

Sources in Subrahmanya police station said that Chaitra had invited the wrath of the Sangh Parivar members by chastising rituals, including the highly venerated 'Sarpa Samskara' observed at Kukke Shree Subrahmanya Temple.

On Wednesday evening, Chaitra, along with eight men, had confronted Guruprasad at Kashi Katte in Subrahmanya. There was a heated exchange of words and the assault.
