Assault on police personnel: 4 arrested

Kadaba police arrested four men who had purportedly gone on a drunken rampage assaulting policemen, a home guard and vandalising a police jeep in Mardala in Puttur taluk on Sunday night.

The men arrested were identified as Rathnakar, Harischandra, Dinesh and Prashanth.

According to Dakshina Kannada SP Ravikanthe Gowda, Kadaba ASI Prakash Devadiga, Head Constable Shivaprasad, Constable Puttasamappa and Home Guard Srishaila were inspecting vehicles in order to book cases for drunken driving. Four men on three bikes arrived at the spot. When asked to stop the vehicle, the four men in an inebriated state behaved rudely and threw away the breath analyser.

Later, they assaulted the policemen and the home guard. When ordered to board the police jeep, they broke the jeep’s window glasses and tore its tarpaulin cover. The police had booked cases against the four under IPC Section 143, 147, 148, 353, 332, 333, 307 and 149.

Man suffers injuries

A youth suffered bruises in an altercation with his friends over a trivial issue, at Assaigoli on Sunday night.

According to DCP Uma Prashanth, the injured youth was identified as Ramesh.

There was an exchange of heated words between Ramesh and his friends- Shameer, Shawaz, Iliyaz over a trivial issue. Later, the trio hit Ramesh in his nose and inflicted bruises on his hands using a key. All of them were under the influence of alcohol, sources said.
