BJP stages day-and-night protest against sand scarcity

Members of BJP district unit, led by Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat, began a day and night protest against sand scarcity, in front of DC Office here, on Thursday.

The protesters demanded that more sand bars should be identified and the problem of sand scarcity should be solved.

Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis tried to pacify the protesters and to withdraw the nightlong protest but to no avail.

MLC S L Bhojegowda also arrived at the spot and requested the protesters to end the protest.

He said that the government would intervene and solve the sand problem after the byelection. The protesters, however, refused to withdraw and continued their protest through out the night.

Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, Zilla Panchayat president Dinakar Babu, Udupi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Krishna Rao Kodancha, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike district unit president Ansar Ahmed and others took part in the protest.
