MP Suresh Angadi, condemned the recent violence at Rani Channamma University, Belagavi (RCUB); allegedly caused by Congress workers.

It may be recalled that Congress workers claiming to be supporters of MLA Satish Jarkiholi, barged into RCUB, ransacked university property, and disrupted a voluntary blood donation camp that was going on there, on Monday.

Angadi demanded that the MLA, irrespective of whether the unruly mob were his supporters or not, must ask the police to file cases against them for vandalism.

Angadi told reporters here on Tuesday, that the district administration and city police were not taking action against the vandals even a day after the incident. "This is an indication that they have yielded to pressure from their political bosses," he remarked.

Underpass works

The underpass work which began on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway near Bhutramanhatti last week, was in no way concerned with RCUB, the MP said. The students and vice chancellor had demanded an underpass for their safety.

“I raised the issue with Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and got Rs 25 crore approved. MP Prakash Hukkeri and MLA Satish Jarkiholi were invited for the foundation stone laying programme, but they did not attend," he pointed out. He added that another underpass at Dastikopp near Kittur, was proposed.
