Brouhaha over lack of progress in housing project

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA D Vedavyasa Kamath charged the officials of failing to show any progress in the G+3 housing project launched last year at Shaktinagara in Mangaluru.

Speaking at the DISHA meeting, MLA Kamath said, “The proposal aimed at constructing 930 houses on 11 acres of land. The allotment letter on proposed houses was issued by former MLA J R Lobo without clearing the hurdles to take up the project on the site. The land is still in the name of Karnataka government. Unless it is changed to the name of Mangaluru City Corporation, the work cannot be initiated on the site even after 10 years. Further, accusing the officials of felling trees, an environmentalist has approached the court.”

MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said that the applications to change the land holdings from Karnataka government to MCC has already been submitted to the revenue department. He promised to look into the file and speed up the work.

The MCC Commissioner said that tender has been floated for construction of 600 houses under Pradhanmantri Awaz Yojana (urban). The DPR for another 600 houses at Tiruvail and 192 houses at Idya has been sent to the government for approval. As the authorities have sought a few clarifications on the DPR, it will be once again be tabled before the council of the Mangaluru City Corporation on February 28.

An official from the Minor Irrigation Department said that a proposal for Rs 2 crore to develop Bogayyana Kere at Balpa under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana has been submitted to the higher authorities. The work on a gram panchayat building to bring all government services under one roof is in progress.

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said that Rs 42 crore has been released to the district from the Central government for rain relief works. The works have to be carried out as per the NDRF guidelines. As per the guidelines, it is difficult to take up permanent restoration works. Accordingly, a subcommittee was constituted to look into the major works on bridges, culverts and roads that need to be taken up immediately.

The MCC Commissioner said that the estimate for removing silt in 13 rajakaluves in Mangaluru has been prepared and the short term tender has been floated to take up the work immediately.
