The Adani Group is likely to bid for other airports through the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).
The business group has begun shifting the headquarters of its airport business to Mumbai and reshuffling top management at the airport, sources in the know told Business Standard.
"While there will be more changes, Adani Group is mindful of the fact that it can use the human resources of MIAL to build up its airport vertical. MIAL executives are likely to be elevated to key positions at group level to oversee the airport business,” a person aware of the development told the publication.
Recently, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) awarded six airports -- Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru -- for operations, management and development to the Adani Group under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for 50 years.
“The government may put weight on airport experience to be eligible to bid. Hence, the group is contemplating making MIAL the primary vehicle for bidding,” the person told the news agency.
The company had said last year that it planned to invest a total capex of approximately Rs 35,780 crore in the airport business in the next five years.
The Adani Group generates and distributes energy, operates seaports and airports, and runs many other critical assets.
