Buoyed by the growing demand for green energy in India and across the world, the government on Wednesday decided to increase the capacity for solar energy from 20,000 MW to 40,000 MW.
“The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the enhancement of capacity from 20,000 MW to 40,000 MW of the Scheme for Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects,” an official statement said.
The decision would pave the way for creation of 50 solar power parks with 500 MW capacity in different parts of the country, Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
