The Nagasaki-based companies are keen on hiring more engineers from Bengaluru, and are targeting to train 100 Indian engineering students in Japanese language this year.

Around 93 of the 2,000 odd companies based in Nagasaki are keen hiring from Bengaluru, according to Keisuke Yamamoto, Nagasaki Prefectural Assembly member representing the Iki city constituency said.

"The first step is that to have talks and bring Nagasaki industries to India," he said.

Next year, Nagasaki is looking to take engineers from India in excess of 150.

As work opportunities for Indians working in the information technology sector decrease in the US and European nations, Japan had recently said that it is looking to hire around 2 lakh professionals from India in the coming days.

With around 9.20 lakh IT professionals currently employed in Japan, there is a demand for at least 2 lakh professionals from India, which is likely to swell to 8 lakhs by 2030, Shigeki Maeda, Executive Vice President of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) had said recently.

Nagasaki government is also mooting to invite Indian companies to visit Japan in October, as part of the initiating dialogue. As part of this move, Yamamoto held discussions with Bangalore Chamber Of Industry And Commerce (BCIC).

Around 40 BCIC members, across the sectors attended the event, and brainstormed various business ideas in Japan. One member was keen on setting up a Yoga institute in Nagasaki, to help Japan deal with ageing population.
