A 10-month-old baby boy died on the spot after falling off a bike which was knocked down by a tipper in Kamakshipalya early on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Bharath. The baby’s mother, who was riding pillion, was holding him the incident happened around 5.30 am near Sunkadakatte bus stop on Magadi Road, the police said.
According to police, Rajappa Gowda, a medical shop owner, and his wife Shyalaja were heading home in Gollarahatti from Majestic bus stand with their son. Shyalaja and Bharath had returned after a vacation from Raichur.
Gowda and his wife escaped unhurt in the accident. A few passersby helped the couple rush the baby to a nearby private hospital where it was declared brought dead.
The Kamakshipalya traffic police rushed to the spot and arrested the truck driver after seizing the vehicle. The police have registered a case of accidental death due to rash and negligent driving and further investigations are under way.
