1859 children who were trafficked, kidnapped or missing from their homes were rescued by the South Western Railway (SWR) in 2017-18.

The children were found in the railway premises. The rescued were then handed over to various NGOs, where some of them reunited with their parents under the scheme, Nanhe Farishte.

This was revealed at a press conference by Arun Kumar, Deputy General, Railway Protection Force (RPF). The presser on Saturday also elaborated on the review of safety and security arrangements in South Western Railway.

An Android app -- SWR Security App -- has been developed by the RPF to help the passengers in need of security. The same can be downloaded from the Google Play store.

Arun Kumar also spoke about various safety and security measures in view of threats, and for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, especially women and children.

RPF in SWR has launched various innovative security measures like Operation Nanhe Farishte, Operation Shakthi, Operation Night Hawk, live train monitoring and the like, besides conducting regular and random drives and checks against antisocial elements.

The railway officials also collected over Rs 2 crore as fine from offenders during 2017-18.
