Over 600 students have been enrolled for the second shift classes at the Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Malleswaram, the first of the KV in the state to get permission to conduct classes in shifts.

This comes following a high demand for admissions into the school.
This academic year, the institute saw as many as 3,634 students register while 632 students were admitted.

Even as the second shift was started to address the growing need, the demand seems to be increasing. The number of students still on the waiting list is as high as 3,002.

The highest number of applications were received for Class 1 with 1,190 students registering, while 84 were admitted. Currently, there are 1,836 students studying in class 1 to 12 in the KV.

This year, the second shift classes will be conducted for Class 1 to 8.
between 12.30 pm and 6 pm, while the first shift commences at 7 am.

On Thursday, the second shift classes were inaugurated.

Parents of one of the students seeking anonymity said while the noon classes ended later in the day, the first shift was too early for students.

“It is tough for us to make transport arrangements for the evening shift. For someone in primary class to be able to reach the school at 7 am is also a tough task,” said the parent.

Previously, even as the Belagavi cantonment region had second shifts between 2005 and 2007, it was discontinued later after the improvement in infrastructure.
