Four students were arrested on Sunday for assaulting and abusing two policemen on duty in Halasuru.

This comes close on the heels of an attack on Rajarajeshwari Nagar policemen by four drunk cab drivers on Saturday.

The suspects—Somesh P S, a resident of JP Nagar; Shushant, a resident of Basaveshwaranagar; Tanish Adarat, a resident of JP Nagar 7th Phase and Nadeem, a resident of Electronics City—all in their early twenties, were drunk.

The four suspects are students of a private college.

According to the police, they were dropped by a cab near the Trinity Junction after a party. The drunk youth started shouting, howling at the passers-by and created a ruckus.

Constables Nagaraj M K and Madhu H S of a Hoysala van asked them to leave the place.

But the men argued with the police and abused them despite warnings. “The ACP was on rounds and we were instructed to clear the men,” said a senior police officer.

When Nagaraj and Madhu asked them to leave, one of the suspects twisted Nagaraj’s arm, while the others picked up stones.

The constables called in for reinforcement and a team of policemen rushed to the spot and took the four to the station.

They were booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections—332– voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty; 353–Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty. Though the sections were non-bailable, on Monday, the suspects were released on bail as they were students and had examinations to attend, said a senior police officer.
