5 held at KIA for smuggling gold

In separate instances, customs officials at the Kempegowda International Airport have nabbed five people for smuggling gold, and recovered 1,149 gm of gold worth Rs 36 lakh from them.

The arrested are Husmi Mubarak Mohideen Nisar, Bandula Vijeweera, Shaik Abdul Munaf, Ismail Jabibula Shaik and Shaik Hassan Basha. While Nisar and Vijeweera arrived from Colombo in Sri Lanka to Bengaluru, concealing cut gold pieces in their rectum, the other three had come from Dubai with gold concealed in a handbag and trouser pockets. The three Dubai passengers were on the same flight and flew to Bengaluru on June 26. They are residents of Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, the customs officials said.
