The BBMP commissioner has directed all the 198 wards to conduct ward committee meetings on the first Saturday of every month at 11.30 am in the ward office.

On 31 October in the council meeting, mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun had directed to hold ward committee meetings in all the wards.

A circular issued by the Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad on Monday in this regard reads: “as per the mayor's direction, ward committees should hold meetings in all the 198 wards. The decisions taken in the meeting should be implemented.”

Recently, the Citizen for Bengaluru(CfB) members had also met the mayor and requested to conduct ward committee meeting.

Srinivas Alavilli, co-founder of CfB said: “This is a huge victory for the citizens demanding empowerment of local government and strengthening the ward committees. We are grateful to the mayor and commissioner for acting on our request and making it official. The ball is in the citizens' court now to participate.”

The CfB volunteers have also created a website (wc.citizensforbengaluru.in) for listing ward committee members.

“Cfb is holding a roundtable meeting on November 27 to discuss ward committees functions. Both, the mayor and commissioner will participate and we are inviting all the corporators also,” he added.
