The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday directed Rakesh Singh, Commissioner of the Bangalore Development Authority, to appear before the court while hearing a contempt of court petition.

A division bench headed by Justice Raghvendra S Chauhan was hearing a contempt petition filed by Lali Verghese, a resident of Byrathikhane village in KR Puram.

The petitioner stated that despite an interim order issued by the court on February 7, 2017, the BDA authorities had violated the order and demolished her house. The BDA also constructed a road over the said land, the petition said.

The court directed the BDA commissioner to be present on Wednesday in response to a submission made by the counsel that a counter affidavit couldn't be filed as the commissioner was too busy to sign the same. Earlier, the court had passed an order, directing the commissioner to file a counter affidavit within a week's time, but he did not do so.

The matter has been adjourned to Wednesday.
