A two-member gang robbed two brand new cars from a showroom in North Bengaluru in the early hours of Wednesday by threatening one of the two security guards, according to a police complaint.

Sources said that police had detained the robbers and were in the process of recovering the cars.

The robbers arrived at the Epitome KIA showroom, located at Kogilu Cross in Yelahanka, around 4.30 am. They threatened the security guard manning the main entrance and forced him to give them the keys of two new cars.

The gang ensured that the guard couldn't raise an alarm, and drove off in the new cars. All this happened within a span of half an hour, according to the complaint.

As soon as the robbers left, the guard called up his superiors and reported the matter to the police. Another guard posted at the back of the showroom was apparently not confronted by the robbers.

C K Baba, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), said police officers visited the car showroom soon after the matter was reported and that a special team was hunting for the robbers. He refused to give more details.

According to sources, the two cars (KIA Seltos) are worth about Rs 35 lakh. The robbers didn't harm the guard but only threatened him.

A police officer who's part of the investigation said they had got some clues about the robbers from the CCTV footage of the showroom.

When DH contacted the showroom for comment, a spokesperson said that there were two security guards but only one was threatened. According to the security guard, two men wearing caps entered the showroom and threatened him. They spoke English and Hindi, the spokesperson said.
