BJP, Cong corporators spar over fund allocation

BJP and Congress corporators disrupted the BBMP council meeting on Monday, citing irregularities in fund allocation.

BJP corporators demanded that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) form an exclusive corporation for them. They claimed the previous state government provided more funds and allocations to Congress-led constituencies.

Yelahanka MLA S R Vishwanath raised the issue in the council meeting. “The government is giving more funds to Congress-ruled constituencies in Bengaluru. There has been no fund allocation for BJP-led constituencies in the city,” he said.

Meanwhile, Padmanabha Reddy, Opposition party leader, asked, “Is this going the same way as how the chief minister is neglecting Uttara Karnataka?”

Sathish Reddy, Bommanahalli MLA, said if the government does not want to provide funds for BJP constituencies, there should be a separate BBMP corporation exclusively for BJP corporators and MLAs. He also claimed his constituency was not given any funds by the State Finance Commission or the 14th Finance Commission.

Mayor R Sampath Raj said he will look into the matter and ensure there is no differentiation between parties in fund allocation. “We want to work for the development of the entire city and not a few constituencies,” he said.

Committee for Indira Canteens

A separate committee will be constituted to look into issues of food wastage in Indira Canteens in the city. The panel will examine how many people are eating and how much food is being wasted.

“We will set up a committee to find out if there are any irregularities. This will help us to examine if there is wastage of food and whether we are running up bills,” said Mayor R Sampath Raj. The decision was taken after Opposition party leader Padmanabha Reddy raised the issue of food wastage in some canteens as not many people visit during night.
