Brothers attack murder-accused pair

An armed man barged into a construction site and attacked a labourer multiple times in Chikkabidarakallu near Nelamangala on Saturday evening.

Further, the man went to another site and attacked a woman as well as an auto-rickshaw driver who came to her rescue.

At around 6 pm, Gaddappa (28) screamed for help after he was attacked multiple times. The site supervisor, P M Shashidhar, rushed to his help. By then, the attacker had fled with another man who was waiting on a motorcycle. Gaddappa was rushed to Victoria Hospital.

Soon after, at another construction site, Gaddapa’s girlfriend, Neelamma (34) was brutally assaulted. Though the auto-rickshaw driver, Mahadeva, came to her rescue, the attacker beat him too before escaping. Both were rushed to the hospital. Neelamma’s condition is critical.

Madanayakanahalli police have taken up a case of attempt to murder. Gaddappa and Neelamma hail from Ligasaguru, Raichur.

Investigations revealed that three years ago, Vidyaranyapura police had booked the pair for killing Ambarish, husband of one Gangamma, who apparently had an affair with Gaddappa.

Gaddappa had strangulated Ambarish, after he used to frequently fight with Gangamma over the affair. Neelamma helped Gaddappa to dispose of the body in an isolated place. Police later arrested and remanded them in judicial custody.

An year ago, the pair was released on bail. They settled in Madanayakanahalli, working as construction labourers. They told the police they were anticipating an attack.

Gaddappa, in his statement to the cops, said Channappa and Adappa, brothers of deceased Ambarish, were searching for the pair ever since their release. The brothers tracked them down to Chikkabidarakallu and mounted the attack.

After learning the background of the case, police swung into action and arrested Channappa. They are now searching for Adappa.
