Last Updated 09 November 2018, 11:24 IST

A 41-year-old man and his young son died soon after a speeding car rear-ended their motorcycle on the Avalahalli flyover on Old Madras Road in eastern Bengaluru on Monday, police said.

The powerful crash — that occurred around 10.45 am — threw Brahmananda Reddy off the flyover's down ramp and onto the service road below while crushing his 12-year-old son Mouna Sai Reddy between the car and the parapet. Brahmananda sustained grievous head injuries while the boy suffered crushing wounds to his torso. Both of them died almost instantly. The bodies were shifted to East Point Hospital for post-mortem.

The car, a Honda Civic, was hurtling towards Hoskote at the time of the accident. Its driver stopped a few metres ahead only to drive off.

Brahmananda, a resident of Medehalli, was a businessman dealing in the transport of sand, boulders and other building materials. He was taking his son to an eye hospital in Hoskote for getting him prescription glasses.

Neither Brahamananda nor Mouna Sai was wearing a helmet, according to the Avalahalli police who have opened a case following a complaint from Anil Kumar, a relative of the victims'.

A senior officer said a police team was hotly pursuing the car driver to catch him within 24 hours so as to determine whether he was drunk at the wheel.
