Following a debate in the Legislative Council on the fake bill scam in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday seized nearly 9,000 Bill Registers (BR) from the Palike.

Sources said the CID officers had sent six notices to the BBMP asking it to hand over the BRs pertaining to the alleged financial irregularities in the three Assembly constituencies of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Malleswaram. But the officers remained defiant. However, R K Dutta, DGP, CID, issued a stern warning, compelling the Palike to hand over the BRs.

On Saturday night, a team of CID officers took possession of some 3,000 files, and the next morning, another set of 4,000 BRs were handed over to the CID. Sources said some specific files the CID had been waiting for were not handed over to the investigating agency.

Question raised
The CID action comes in the wake of a question raised in the Legislative Council by Janata Dal (S) member N C Nanaiah seeking to know the pace of progress in the case. The matter was to be come up for discussion in the House on Monday, but it did not.
