A senior police officer from Bengaluru Rural district is in the dock after a software engineer accused him of having an affair with his wife, and released a video to support the allegation.

The video, which purportedly shows the uniformed officer in a compromising position with the woman, has gone viral. The techie released the video to the media, and some television channels quickly aired it.

The complainant, who hails from Davangere, claimed the video was sent by the officer to his wife. Noting that the officer’s face is clearly visible in some of the close-up shots in the video, the techie has sought immediate action against him. He said his wife went missing soon after he accessed the video.

The Koramangala police have registered a non-cognisable case under Section 497 (adultery) of the IPC and told the complainant that action would be taken as per the directions of the court.

The techie had first approached the state police headquarters seeking action and claimed the officer had threatened to kill him. He said he had approached the court seeking action against the officer as the police were not taking his complaint seriously.

The couple got married in 2010 after a love affair. But they couldn’t have children and his wife started living with her parents in Davangere.

Sources said Home Minister G Parameshwara had sought a report from state police chief Neelmani N Raju. Since the video showed the officer in uniform, it had become an embarrassment to the police force, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the woman in question said she had separated from her husband and that there was no threat or blackmail to her from the officer.
