Disabled man crawling to cross road run over by car

A 60-year-old physically challenged man crawling to cross the road was run over by a car in eastern Bengaluru’s Whitefield on Monday morning, police said.

Gopalan who had no legs suffered grievous injuries on the head and hands in the accident that occurred around 7.10 am. Baishali Chatterjee, the car driver, failed to notice him crawling to cross the road near Lakshmi Bakery on Immadihalli Road and ran him over. Members of the public rushed Gopalan to the Columbia Asia Hospital where doctors said he had died on the way.

The Whitefield traffic police rushed to the spot after being informed, seized the car and booked Chatterjee under IPC section 304A (accidental death due to rash and negligent driving).

In another accident, two people, including a woman, sustained grievous injuries after a speeding truck knocked them down near Mehkri Circle in northern Bengaluru on Monday afternoon.

Shohan Babu, 52, and Rajani Rajeshwari, 57, were riding on Ramana Maharshi Road around 12.30 pm when a rashly driven truck hit their two-wheeler. Both of them fell down and their legs came under the wheels of the truck.

They sustained grievous injuries and lied profusely bleeding on the road until a traffic police constable with the help of passersby rushed them to the MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital.

The jurisdictional Sadashivanagar traffic police have registered a case.
