Upa Lokayukta Subhash B Adi has suggested that the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) impose heavy penalties and hike advertisement tax to increase its revenue.
Justice Adi gave the suggestion during an address to BBMP officials at a meeting on Thursday. He also suggested that the Palike consider making changes to its advertisement bylaws besides pushing for amending the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981.
He also advised Palike officials to work hard and respond to citizens’ problems without any delay.
“Palike officials should stop running behind elected representatives,” he said.
BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana said officials and elected representatives could work together to find effective solutions to citizens’ problems.
Meanwhile, the Palike has sent a proposal to the State government for banning advertisement hoardings in the City, Mayor N Shanthakumari told Deccan Herald.
