The alumni of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) on Friday marked ‘Guru Purnima’ in a unique way.

Students of PGP Class of 1992 dedicated Classroom L-11 on the picturesque campus to their beloved teacher, Professor Vatsala Nagarajan.

Led by Rahul Shukla, Prashant Jain, Ashish Parthasarathy and others, the alumni contributed to the initiative. “This is the first time in the history of IIMB that we have a classroom named after a faculty member. I wish this unique initiative would inspire other alumni to take up similar causes,” said IIMB Director Prof G Raghuram at the event.

Vatsala Nagarajan joined IIM Bangalore on February 1, 1974, in the Finance area. She served as a dean from 18 April 1991, to 30 September 1992, before retirement.

The 86-year-old professor was known as an outstanding teacher, friend, guide, and mentor to students, staff and faculty at the institute. During her service, she was always approachable, supportive and positive. Vatsala Nagarajan was accompanied to the event by her husband KS Nagarajan.

Thanking her students on the occasion, Vatsala said, “Parents are normally proud of their children when they do well. A teacher is proud when all her students do well. When I think of my students, it makes me happy and proud, not just because they are successful in what they choose to do but also because they are good at their hearts.”
