Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research is augmenting the facility by increasing the bed capacity to 1,000 in the coming days.

The institute along with Infosys Foundation will be laying the foundation stone to construct a 300-bed new hospital complex on Wednesday.

Dr C Manjunath, director of the institute, said they will be forgoing the staff parking lot for the new building and will have a multi-level parking facility in the same place.

“Infosys foundation will be funding Rs 50 crore for the expansion programme. The state government will be sanctioning Rs 22.5 crore for the equipment and another Rs 25 crore will be pitched in by the hospital,” he added.

Currently, the hospital has 700 beds. With the additional 300 beds, the facility will become a 1,000-bed hospital, one of the largest government hospitals for heart care.

When DH asked if the new building will be equipped with a helipad to facilitate helicopters used as air ambulances to shift critical patients, Dr Manjunath said it was not possible to have a helipad as the new building will have only four floors. A helipad requires at least 10 floors, he said. Moreover, there are high tension wires around the hospital which will not help air ambulances to land, he added.
