A few farmers associations have called upon the farmers to celebrate ‘Ugadi’ festival, by burning copies of the new farm laws of the Union government.

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha president Badagalpura Nagendra, in a press conference here, said, “Ugadi will be celebrated by burning copies of the three new agriculture related policies, as a mark of protest against the government, demanding their withdrawal.”

Nagendra informed that a mega Maha Panchayat, a massive congregation of farmers, will be held in Mysuru, Mangaluru, Chitradurga in the month of May. In June, Mahila Maha Panchayat will be organised in Yadgir or Raichur.

A Kisan Panchayat will be held on July 21, on the day of ‘Farmers Martyr Day’ in North Karnataka. Lakhs of farmers will be part of the event. Similar events are planned in Kolar, Bagalkot, Bidar and Hosapet, he said.
