Bringing in technology in the education sector, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has collaborated with Microsoft and Tech Avant Garde to upgrade all the existing corporation schools.

Titled ‘Project Roshni’, the initiative will provide infrastructural and financial support to all the BBMP schools. With this the schools will also follow a holistic curriculum similar to the private schools in the city.

“It is a known fact that the corporation schools are not at par with the private schools in the city. For the first time Microsoft has taken up the initiative to provide infrastructural facilities to more than 150 schools across the city. They will also train the teachers on computer and smart class facilities. This will help students to be at par with the private school students,” said Deputy Chief Minister and district-in-charge Minister G Parameshwara.

“It is our dream to make these schools that efficient in three years. Students should opt for our schools rather than the Bishop Cottons," said BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad.

The civic body will not be investing in this project. “The maintenance cost including for the building will be taken up by BBMP as usual. Microsoft will be spending around Rs 500 to 600 crore for five years to train the teachers,” he added.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will formally launch the programme on Wednesday.
